The Ultra Pre­cis­ion Manu­fac­tu­ring of Asphe­res and Free­forms (UPM) work­shop has been brin­ging tog­e­ther the inter­na­tio­nal ultra-pre­cis­ion com­mu­nity in Jena since at least 2010. Held every two years, the event has con­ti­nuously evol­ved into a well-estab­lished plat­form for exch­ange bet­ween lea­ding experts in opti­cal manu­fac­tu­ring, metro­logy and sys­tem inte­gra­tion. The 10th edi­tion took place in 2022, unders­coring the workshop’s long-stan­ding con­ti­nuity and rele­vance.

Orga­nised by Opto­Net e.V. in coope­ra­tion with Fraun­ho­fer IOF, UPM pro­vi­des a focu­sed, high-level forum dedi­ca­ted to the fabri­ca­tion and cha­rac­te­riza­tion of asphe­ri­cal and free­form opti­cal sur­faces. The pro­gramme com­bi­nes sci­en­ti­fic depth with indus­trial rele­vance, cove­ring ultra-pre­cis­ion machi­ning tech­no­lo­gies, advan­ced poli­shing pro­ces­ses, sur­face and form metro­logy, free­form design stra­te­gies, and appli­ca­tion-dri­ven sys­tem solu­ti­ons.

By con­sis­t­ently con­nec­ting rese­arch insti­tu­ti­ons, machine manu­fac­tu­r­ers, com­po­nent sup­pli­ers and sys­tem inte­gra­tors, UPM streng­thens Jena’s posi­tion as a key hub for pho­to­nics and ultra-pre­cis­ion engi­nee­ring — and fos­ters col­la­bo­ra­tion across the glo­bal optics com­mu­nity.
