OptoNet Workshop
Ultra-Precision Manufacturing of Aspheres and Freeforms
The Ultra Precision Manufacturing of Aspheres and Freeforms (UPM) workshop has been bringing together the international ultra-precision community in Jena since at least 2010. Held every two years, the event has continuously evolved into a well-established platform for exchange between leading experts in optical manufacturing, metrology and system integration. The 10th edition took place in 2022, underscoring the workshop’s long-standing continuity and relevance.
Organised by OptoNet e.V. in cooperation with Fraunhofer IOF, UPM provides a focused, high-level forum dedicated to the fabrication and characterization of aspherical and freeform optical surfaces. The programme combines scientific depth with industrial relevance, covering ultra-precision machining technologies, advanced polishing processes, surface and form metrology, freeform design strategies, and application-driven system solutions.
By consistently connecting research institutions, machine manufacturers, component suppliers and system integrators, UPM strengthens Jena’s position as a key hub for photonics and ultra-precision engineering — and fosters collaboration across the global optics community.
#UPM26 WORKSHOP • EXHIBITION • DINNER RECEPTION
It’s time to meet again: We are looking forward to the 12th edition of the OptoNet Workshop ›Ultra Precision Manufacturing of Aspheres and Freeforms‹. Meet the community and find out about the latest technologies and developments.
Fraunhofer IOF and OptoNet e.V. are happy to provide extended space for exhibitors and more opportunities for business and networking like last time.
In 2026 we will focus on
- Freeform optics for novel applications
- Mid spatial frequency errors
- Freeform optical systems and
- Manufacturing and characterization of freeform surfaces
We look forward to seeing familiar and new colleagues, to exciting presentations and interesting exhibitors.
